From Divine Abodes to Culinary Delights: A Journey to Remember

Image
On a serene morning blessed with calm skies and a sense of devotion, we embarked on a spiritual journey to two sacred abodes of divinity: the Thrippalkadal Krishna Swamy Temple and the Thrippadapuram Mahadeva Temple, guided by the company of our cherished family friend, Rajkumar Chettan and his family. The car ride, steered skillfully by Rajkumar Chettan, was filled with the laughter of companionship and the anticipation of divine blessings. Our first stop was the Thrippalkadal Krishna Swamy Temple, located in Keezhperoor, Thiruvananthapuram. This ancient temple, believed to be over 2,000 years old, is dedicated to Lord Krishna, worshipped here as a four-armed Vishnu. The deity holds the conch Panchajanya, the discus Sudarshana Chakra, the mace Kaumodaki, and a butter ball, symbolizing divine grace and protection. The temple's architecture is a marvel of Dravidian style, with intricate carvings and a sanctum sanctorum that reflects celestial harmony. It i...

Journey Through Time: Sri Adikeshava Perumal Temple and Thirumarvazhavan Temple

Image
Our Spiritual Sojourn Our journey began early in the morning as we set out to visit two significant Vaishnavite shrines in Tamil Nadu. Our first stop was the Sri Adikeshava Perumal Temple in Thiruvattar. Morning: Sri Adikeshava Perumal Temple, Thiruvattar This temple, surrounded by the Kothai, Pahrali, and Thamirabarani rivers, is one of the 108 Divya Desams and holds immense historical and spiritual significance. The temple's architecture, a beautiful blend of Dravidian and Kerala styles, captivated us. The murals and sculptures depicting scenes from the Ramayana and various Hindu deities added to the temple's charm. According to legend, this temple was consecrated by Parasurama and is admired by Veda Vyasa in the Padma Purana. Inside the sanctum, we were greeted by the reclining form of Lord Vishnu, surrounded by the coiled body of Adiseshan. The tranquil ambiance and the rich history of the temple left us feeling connected to the divine. Thirumarvazhavan Temple, ...

Trekking to Varayadumotta: A Challenging Yet Rewarding Experience

Image
Yesterday, I joined about thirty other people on a trek to Varayadumotta, organized by AMAS Kerala. The weather was far from ideal; the unbearable heat posed a significant challenge throughout the journey. The trek involved traversing a difficult forest path with limited access to drinking water, making the ascent, especially the steep 80-degree slopes, incredibly strenuous. We were accompanied by two forest watchers who led the way. Around two in the afternoon, we finally reached the summit, where nature rewarded us with breathtaking views. From Varayadumotta, we could see Ponmudi directly opposite us, and Agasthyamala in the distance to the right. Despite the stunning scenery, the intense heat remained a formidable adversary. The four liters of water each of us carried were almost depleted by the time we reached the top. At three o'clock, we began our descent, which proved to be even more treacherous than the climb. The 80-degree incline meant we had ...

A Day of Delight at Mandrothu: A Teacher's Retreat

Image
Yesterday, the teachers of St. Thomas Higher Secondary School embarked on a much-anticipated one-day trip to Mandrothu, a journey that proved to be a delightful escape from the routine of school life. While the initial mood was a little subdued due to some unforeseen hiccups in the original plan, the timely and insightful intervention of the resort manager turned the day around completely, transforming a potentially disappointing outing into a joyous and memorable experience. We are immensely grateful for their quick thinking and adaptability. Our adventure began with a visit to the mesmerizing Mangrove forest. Climbing the sturdy mangrove branches was an exhilarating, almost mind-blowing experience, offering a unique perspective of this vital ecosystem. We felt a sense of childlike wonder as we navigated through the intricate network of roots and branches. The aquatic adventures continued with kayaking through the serene backwaters. Paddling our way through the calm waters, surro...
