A Day of Delight at Mandrothu: A Teacher's Retreat

Yesterday, the teachers of St. Thomas Higher Secondary School embarked on a much-anticipated one-day trip to Mandrothu, a journey that proved to be a delightful escape from the routine of school life. While the initial mood was a little subdued due to some unforeseen hiccups in the original plan, the timely and insightful intervention of the resort manager turned the day around completely, transforming a potentially disappointing outing into a joyous and memorable experience. We are immensely grateful for their quick thinking and adaptability.

Our adventure began with a visit to the mesmerizing Mangrove forest. Climbing the sturdy mangrove branches was an exhilarating, almost mind-blowing experience, offering a unique perspective of this vital ecosystem. We felt a sense of childlike wonder as we navigated through the intricate network of roots and branches.
The aquatic adventures continued with kayaking through the serene backwaters. Paddling our way through the calm waters, surrounded by the lush greenery, was incredibly relaxing and rejuvenating. We also had the opportunity to sail in a traditional Kuttavanchi (a circular boat), gliding smoothly across the vast expanse of Ashtamudi Lake. The gentle rocking of the boat and the picturesque views of the surrounding landscape created a sense of tranquility that was truly special.

A highlight of the trip was our visit to the more than 250-year-old Dutch Church at Munroe Island. Stepping into this historic structure, with its weathered walls and serene atmosphere, was a deeply moving experience. It felt like a moment of divine blessing, a peaceful respite from the hustle and bustle of daily life.

We also enjoyed a visit to a secluded island nestled within Ashtamudi Lake. The island's tranquil beauty and isolation offered a sense of peace and seclusion, a perfect opportunity to unwind and connect with nature.

This trip to Mandrothu was a much-needed break for all of us, a chance to recharge and reconnect as a team. We are deeply grateful to our Principal, Dr. Lizu Verghese, and our Staff Secretary, Manjula Teacher, for organizing this wonderful outing. A special thank you also goes to the tour operators for their seamless arrangements. And, of course, our heartfelt gratitude to the island manager whose understanding and flexibility, especially their willingness to change the plans to accommodate the initial mood of the team, truly made the trip a success. Their responsiveness turned what could have been a less-than-perfect day into a truly joyful and memorable one.
