Celebrate Your Love for the Big Screen: All About Cinema Lovers Day in India

India is known for its vibrant film industry, and Cinema Lovers Day is a special occasion that brings together movie enthusiasts across the country. This year, the event is scheduled for May 31, with various multiplexes and single-screen cinemas offering discounted tickets at ₹99 for a day.

The initiative, launched by the Multiplex Association of India (MAI), aims to boost sales and attract a broader audience demographic, particularly families who may have found cinema outings financially prohibitive due to high ticket prices. Over 4,000 screens are participating in this event, including major chains like PVR Inox, Cinepolis India, and others.

The discounted tickets will be available for mainstream seats, with premium formats like recliners excluded from the offer. Many single-screen theatres, particularly in southern regions, are also expected to participate, with some offering tickets at rates lower than ₹99, possibly as low as ₹70.

The event is expected to attract a surge in occupancy rates, with estimates reaching as high as 70-80%. Youths are projected to constitute approximately 50% of footfalls, while families are expected to comprise 25-30% of the audience.

Cinema Lovers Day has been successful in the past, with a similar initiative in 2022 drawing over 6.5 million cinema-goers on a single day. The event aims to make multiplexes more accessible to new consumers and encourage consumers who haven’t yet returned to their local theatres in post-pandemic times.

This year, the event will showcase a roster of successful films, including old Bollywood favourites like Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara and Rockstar, as well as highly anticipated releases like "Mr & Mrs Mahi" and "Chhota Bheem and the Curse of Damyaan." The initiative is poised to stimulate moviegoer interest as theatres gear up for a season replete with new releases.

Trekking to Varayadumotta: A Challenging Yet Rewarding Experience

Yesterday, I joined about thirty other people on a trek to Varayadumotta, organized by AMAS Kerala. The weather was far from ideal; the unbearable heat posed a significant challenge throughout the journey. The trek involved traversing a difficult forest path with limited access to drinking water, making the ascent, especially the steep 80-degree slopes, incredibly strenuous.
