Trekking Through the Wilderness: A Journey from Ponmudi to Manachala-Varayadumotta base camp

Yesterday was a day etched in our memories forever. A team of fifteen adventurers set out on an exhilarating trek from Ponmudi hilltop to Varayadumotta base camp. This 12-kilometer journey through the dense forest of Ponmudi offered more than just a challenging hike; it was an immersion into nature's wonders.

The Adventure Begins

Our expedition commenced at 10:30 am, with Mr. Rajesh, a knowledgeable forest staff member, leading the way as our hiking guide. The trek was meticulously organized by AMAS KERALA, and Mr. Bijin, the PRO of AMAS KERALA, played the role of an excellent team leader.

Nature's Spectacle

As we ventured deeper into the forest, we were greeted by the sights and sounds of wildlife. The presence of wild squirrels, wild buffalos, elephants, and a variety of butterflies added a magical touch to our journey. We marveled at the fresh shed skin of a King Cobra, the elegant flying Indian milkweed, and the intriguing live ball-shaped termitarium. Our keen eyes also spotted the rejected ant polybia and the Motty fruit flower, making our trek a naturalist's dream.
A Wilderness Wonderland

The forest seemed alive with stories, with each turn of the path revealing something new. Mr. Rajesh's expertise was invaluable, helping us understand the significance of each discovery. His insights into the flora and fauna of Ponmudi enriched our experience, making us appreciate the delicate balance of nature.

At Manachala base camp, we stumbled upon the abandoned Sastha temple, a site once worshipped by the tribal people. The divine vibe of this place was unforgettable, and we could feel the history and spirituality that lingered in the air. The entry to Manachala base camp had been restricted for more than 10 years due to security issues, making our visit even more special.

Clearing the Path

Our journey continued with every step, as we cleared the way by cutting through thorny bushes and tree branches. This made our trek more challenging but also more rewarding, as we felt a deeper connection to the untamed wilderness around us.

A Refreshing Finale

After hours of trekking, our journey concluded at a serene stream. The sight and sound of the flowing water were a perfect reward for our efforts. We couldn't resist taking a refreshing bath, letting the cool water wash away our fatigue and rejuvenate our spirits.

A Heartfelt Thanks

This unforgettable experience wouldn't have been possible without the support and guidance of AMAS KERALA and the Kerala Forest Department. Our heartfelt thanks go to Mr. Rajesh for his exceptional guidance and to Mr. Bijin for his leadership throughout the hike. Their dedication and passion for preserving nature made this trek not only possible but also deeply enriching.

As we returned to our starting point at 5:00 pm, we carried with us not just the memories of the journey but also a renewed sense of respect and admiration for the natural world. This trek reminded us of the beauty and fragility of our environment and the importance of preserving it for future generations.

So, here's to more adventures, more discoveries, and more moments that make us feel truly alive. Thank you, AMAS KERALA and Kerala Forest Department, for making this trek an unforgettable one. πŸŒΏπŸ¦‹πŸšΆ‍♂️
